New ETSI Standard Published 301 489-17 V3.1.1

ETSI EN 301 489-17 V3.1.1 (2017-02), “ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC) standard for radio equipment and services; Part 17: Specific conditions for Broadband Data Transmission Systems; Harmonised Standard covering the essential requirements of article 3.1(b) of Directive 2014/53/EU” has now been published – download (free of charge) from:

Key changes in this version, (see Annex D of the standard)

  • Radiated immunity testing to a continuous sweep between 80 MHz and 6 000 MHz at 3 V/m, as opposed to the previous frequency range of 80 MHz to 1 000 MHz and 1 400 MHz to 2 700 MHz in earlier editions.
  • New derivations of exclusion bands more closely linked to the operational characteristics of the radio link(s) in the EUT.
  • New test arrangement for systems with multiple antennas.

New Harmonised standard list for the Radio Equipment Directive 2017/C 044/02

Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU)

There is a new publications in the OJEU of standards harmonised under the Radio Equipment Directive:

  • 10th February 2017               2017/C 044/02 4 standards added

This brings the total number of standards harmonised under the RED to 51

(compared to over 200 standards harmonised under the R&TTE Directive).

EU MDR & IVDR – Final Versions Released

Final texts of the EU MDR & IVDR (R = Regulation) have been released recently, the European Council is scheduled to hold a vote to adopt the legislation in March 2017, followed by a vote in the European Parliament in April. It is estimated that the transition periods will start sometime in the 2nd quarter of 2017. The MDD has a 3 year transition period and the IVDR has a 5 year transition period.

  • 10th March 2017               2017/C 076/04 14 standards added

This brings the total number of standards harmonised under the RED to 65

(compared to over 200 standards harmonised under the R&TTE Directive).
