Safety Assessment

This service is intended to help the client prepare for compliance testing or internal assessment with the essential requirements of EU Directives such as the Machinery, Electromagnetic Compatibility, Medical and Low Voltage Directives.

The service can or will (where applicable) include:

  • Explanation on the requirements of the product related EU Directives and routes to compliance
  • Advice on most applicable, products Safety Standards
  • Advice on the contents of Technical Documentation
  • Advice on how to create an EU Declaration of Conformity (D o C) and its contents
  • Evaluation and advice on available safety critical/other parts/components certification, D o C etc.

Product visual evaluation (See * note below) against the essential requirements of the Low Voltage and Machinery Directive.

A report will be prepared and presented to the client which (where applicable) will include:

  • A summary statement briefly detailing the author’s opinion on whether the product meets, or does not meet the essential requirements of the Low Voltage and EMC Directives.
  • Observations and comments noted during the product’s assessment
  • List of non-compliance's
  • Summary of parts components that are considered Safety Critical components
  • Advice on supporting documentation (i.e. acceptable or not), flammability ratings etc. For Safety Critical parts and materials
  • Evaluation of client’s submitted test results
  • Advice on additional tests which be required to supplement the assessment

Assessment/Advice will be provided by a Chartered Engineer and experienced safety lab manager.

*Note: It must be appreciated  that a visual evaluation cannot replace the testing of a product by a competent laboratory following Harmonized EU standards. Such evaluation can identify areas of major safety or other concerns. Competent laboratories use calibrated equipment and have the experience to carry out a much more in-depth evaluation which is not possible by a visual assessment.
